California-Las Vegas route gets federal rail corridor status

The federal government has designated a route between Southern California and Las Vegas as part of the high-speed rail corridor. The distinction could help the states as they apply for a portion of stimulus funds set aside for high-speed rail projects. However, California officials say their first rail priority is a route that will connect several coastal cities in the state.
