FAA virtual flight plan system nears full integration

The FAA says its new National Airspace Data Interchange Network, which "virtualizes" its flight plan infrastructure, will soon be fully operational. The system is designed to prevent system computer crashes and reduce its vulnerability to hackers, and under it, general aviation and airline pilots will file flight plans through a service provider or flight station.
