Hepatitis C a widespread epidemic

Hepatitis C infection is more widespread and 10 times more infectious than HIV and affects about 4 million people in the U.S. The disease can cause life-threatening complications, including scarring and cirrhosis, if it goes undetected. However, the virus often does not cause symptoms and can go undiagnosed for years.
