Commentary: Does the U.S. need hypersonic missiles?

As the Air Force discusses the impact of building up the Pentagon's arsenal of hypersonic missiles, which can reach Mach 5, or five times the speed of sound, the question arises whether something should be done just because it can be done. The U.S. military will bring up failed missions, such as the attempt to kill Osama bin Laden, in its argument in favor of the missiles, but the country should think twice before spending billions on another silver bullet, according to this commentary.
