Fascination, not competition, is the key to innovation

Most experts will tell you that innovation derives from a fundamental human urge to get the upper hand over one's rivals. In fact, writes Mitch Ditkoff, it's fascination rather than competition that holds the key to radically creative thought: Only by immersing ourselves in problems can we come up with new perspectives on them. "If you, or the people who report to you, are not currently in a state of fascination, it's time to turn things around," Ditkoff writes.
