Ontario city expects artificial turf will be more efficient

The city of Kitchener, Ontario, might spend an additional $9.4 million for local parks and fields during the next 10 years, with $4.5 million being allocated for four artificial turf fields. A local parks manager said the artificial surfaces will increase the time available for more sports because it doesn't wear down as quickly as grass. He said it will cost less than $8,000 a year to maintain the artificial surfaces, compared with about $28,000 for natural grass.
