Study: Drinking alcohol may contribute to weight gain

Alcohol consumption and eating while drinking alcohol may contribute to weight gain, says weight-loss expert Dr. Howard Shapiro. Drinking alcoholic beverages increases cravings for carbohydrates, while consuming two glasses of wine for up to six times per week may result in extra two pounds of weight gain a month, Shapiro said.
