Analyst: Ethanol sector faces worst spell since 2007-2008

U.S. ethanol producers are facing their worst spell since the 2007-2008 period, as slumping gasoline prices, soaring corn costs and concerns about the sweltering heat in key corn-growing areas put the squeeze on industry profits, analysts said. Ethanol producers are getting about 20 cents per gallon less than what they need to turn a profit, said Jerrod Kitt, analyst for the Linn Group.
