Children more likely to be active if parents encourage sports:

Boys and girls of parents who valued high-intensity team sports were more active, watched less TV and spent less time on their computers than other children, a Texas study found. The research also showed that parents' approval of all types of exercise, including individual sports, was tied to increased activity among boys but not girls.
