EU intensifies regulatory push to prevent repeat crisis

EU finance ministers are expected to support a draft report that pushes for banks to hold larger capital cushions. The report also recommends policy measures, such as accounting reforms. However, German Finance Minister Peer Steinbruck is expected to push for an easing of banks' capital constraints, arguing that they need to be able to lend to struggling businesses.
