New standards set by international food safety organization

The Codex Alimentarius Commission, a joint body of the U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization and the World Health Organization, has set more than 30 new standards and guidelines for food safety. These include measures to reduce acrylamide, a potentially cancer-causing substance created when carbohydrate-rich foods are fried, roasted or baked.
