Transportation advocates welcome Oberstar's legislation

Transportation executives in New Jersey are applauding legislation recently proposed by Rep. James Oberstar, D-Minn., chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. The bill includes a six-year transportation funding plan that would replace the ailing U.S. Highway Trust Fund and increase funding for mass transit while reducing the proportional allocation for roadways. Veronica Vanterpool, associate director of the Tri-State Transportation Campaign in New York, said, "For too long, our transportation policy has concentrated on new road capacity as being the main driver, but there are more jobs in mass transit."
