EU approves tougher compensation rules for bankers

The European Parliament approved revised laws that limit cash payments to bankers to no more than 30% of their bonuses. Directors at financial institutions that received taxpayer money will be required to justify their bonuses under the rules, and banks will need to disclose those employees who earn more than €1 million. Finance ministers from across the EU are poised to endorse the laws early next week.
