Passenger-rail plans gain momentum in Maine, Nevada

Plans for passenger-rail work are in motion in Maine and Nevada. Work is set to begin on an extension of Amtrak's Downeaster in Maine, bringing the Boston-to-Portland service to Brunswick, with a stop in Freeport. In Nevada, the proposed DesertXpress high-speed passenger railway between Las Vegas and California cleared a hurdle with a decision by Clark County to work with the railway on plans.
