Colleges explore use of online remedial classes

More California colleges are offering remedial classes online, but it's unclear how well the platform works for specific classes, such as remedial math. Some colleges are using hybrid models in which students take online classes and also receive on-campus support. One challenge is determining if the class is right for students. "If we can change our assessment process and only allow selected students to an online class, then we may be more successful," said Roya Furmuly, who teaches an online remedial algebra class at Pierce College in Woodland Hills, Calif.
