Active management helps ensure success of online patient communities

A comparison of two online patient communities showed that the one that is actively managed has many more subscribers than the one that is no longer actively managed. Successful online communities are nurtured and supported, receiving moderation and daily attention, writes health care marketer Dan Dunlop, who likens community management to hosting a dinner party. "Your job includes welcoming people, making introductions, introducing people who may have common interests, prompting conversation, suggesting topics, and filling those awkward silences," Dunlop writes.
