Call for phase-out of plastic microbeads gains momentum

The growing concern about plastic marine litter has led several states to consider banning plastic microbeads from personal-care products. Illinois recently passed such legislation, which was supported by the American Chemistry Council. Meanwhile, ACC is evaluating a federal bill that would order the Food and Drug Administration to phase out plastic microbeads by 2018.
