CMS proposes changes to Medicare Shared Savings program

The CMS proposed adding four new quality metrics and new quality incentives to its accountable care program. New metrics include educating patients on treatment costs, admissions to skilled nursing facilities after being discharged from a hospital and unplanned readmission rates for some patients. The CMS also sought comments on planned quality metrics for health outcomes, care coordination, prevention and the health of elderly populations, among others.
