Conservation specialist offers tips to save water

Even with the abundant rain in Colorado this year, Laurie D'Audney, a water conservation specialist for Fort Collins Utilities, recommends conserving water through xeriscaping and moderate lawn watering. Homeowners can water lawns between 6 p.m. and 10 a.m. to cut down on the water that evaporates into the atmosphere, she notes, and water in two cycles to allow the water to soak into the lawn. Replanting a section of lawn with a xeriscape garden of low water-use plants can also save time spent mowing and watering.
