Deepwater drilling ban is detrimental to industry

Cal Dooley, the president and CEO of the American Chemistry Council, writes in this column that the U.S. moratorium on deepwater drilling could hurt the manufacturing industry. The chemical industry uses oil and gas as "building blocks" for other goods, as well as for heating and electricity at factories. "Instead of focusing on punitive measures against the oil and gas industry, the prudent response would be to rededicate ourselves to offshore safety and tighter oversight," writes Dooley.
