Researchers delve into how exercise affects brain cells

Researchers are beginning to figure out what mechanisms are at work in the brain when people exercise, and some are focusing on manipulating levels of bone-morphogenetic protein, or BMP, in mice. As people age, BMP appears to adversely affect how well brain stem cells divide and prosper, and exercise may counteract some of that effect.
