Small businesses are struggling to add jobs

Small businesses have traditionally played a key role in leading the nation out of recessions, but the sector has struggled to add jobs as we emerge from the most recent downturn. Small companies had the smallest number of new hires last month since October, according to payroll data from Intuit. "If the small businesses are faltering, that suggests that the risks of recession are growing," said John Challenger, president of an employment consulting firm.
