Sustainable-landscape architects get a boost in California

Sustainable-landscape architects and programs around Oakland, Calif., are getting a boost as more businesses look to meet stricter building requirements, writes Charles Redell. A program called Bay-Friendly Landscaping and Gardening evaluates whether properties meet nine optional and required practices and certifies landscape designers. Novato, Calif.-based Cagwin & Dorward now has 15 Bay-Friendly-qualified employees, which has helped boost sales of sustainable-landscape services by 450% during the past four years.
