Aussie veterinarians seek financial aid to combat Hendra virus

The Australian Veterinary Association is calling on the government to create a national system to allow veterinarians who manage potential Hendra virus outbreaks to be reimbursed for the cost of protective clothing and for helping educate equine owners. The call follows an outbreak of the bat-borne virus that led to the death of seven horses so far and the quarantine of 11 equine properties in New South Wales and Queensland.
