Boehner backs Obama's call for far-reaching debt deal

House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, emerged as an enthusiastic supporter of President Barack Obama's proposal for a bipartisan compromise to cut the deficit. The deal would either be reached quickly or collapse because of partisan bickering, Boehner said. Obama called for reducing the deficit through cuts to Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security as well as measures to increase revenue.
