Almost 1 in 4 young assault victims in U.S. owns firearm

U.S. researchers looked at 689 14- to 24-year-olds who were treated at emergency departments for assault-related injuries and found that 23% of them said that they owned or carried a firearm in the previous six months. The study in the journal Pediatrics revealed that gun possession had a substantial association with higher socioeconomic status, male gender, illegal drug use, involvement in serious fights and retaliatory violence.
