Analysis looks at impact of aging population on U.S. emergency care

The number of emergency department visits will increase at the same rate as the population ages, but emergency visits will last longer, U.S. researchers found. Hospital admissions from EDs are expected to increase 23% faster between now and 2050, according to the analysis in the journal Health Affairs. The country "will need 10% more ED resources per capita than available today," lead author Dr. Daniel Pallin said.
