Girl toddles off on new prosthetic feet

Two-and-a-half-year-old Ireland Nugent has been cleared to wear her new prostheses full time, less than three months after losing both feet in a lawnmower accident. "Now it's just the therapy part, getting her used to her prosthetics and starting to walk," said physician Daniel Chan of the Florida Orthopaedic Institute. Ireland will soon return to Prosthetic and Orthotic Associates in Orlando, where she was fitted for her prostheses, to receive new carbon-fiber feet that are even more lightweight, and she will continue to get new prostheses as she grows.
