U.S. physicians appear to be ordering fewer imaging scans, according to Medicare Part B claims data collected from 2003 to 2011. Researchers from the Harvey L. Neiman Health Policy Institute said the decline in the percentage of clinical encounters that lead to imaging is likely explained by an increased number of patient visits as well as a decline in the frequency of medical imaging.
