The Securities and Exchange Commission is set to vote this week on Regulation D, a rule that would allow private equity and hedge funds more freedom in talking to potential investors, including possibly lifting a ban on advertising. The SEC's decision to proceed with the vote, and potentially address issues raised by consumer advocacy groups with a later rule, has drawn some criticism.
