Students connect with donors on crowdsourcing sites

A growing number of students and others say websites such as GoFundMe.com are helping them meet fundraising goals to pay for tuition, study-abroad opportunities, charities and more. Students say that such crowdsourcing websites allow them to create profiles in which they explain their goals and provide information to potential donors. However, Betty Lochner, vice chairwoman of the College Savings Plans Network, warns that such sites can carry hidden fees.
