Study: Pediatric IBD hospitalizations could reflect increasing severity

A study by researchers at Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital in Cleveland that looked at a national database found the number of children hospitalized for inflammatory bowel disease increased from 11,928 to 19,568 from 2000 to 2009. The findings are troubling because they show that more children need intense medical care, says researcher Dr. Thomas Sferra, who also said IBD may be growing more severe, with patients more prone to complications.
