Sufficient sleep plus healthy habits cut heart disease risk

Being physically active, eating a healthy diet, consuming alcohol in moderation and not smoking were associated with a 57% lower risk of cardiovascular disease and a 67% reduced risk of death from a stroke or heart disease, compared with people who followed fewer than two of the four habits, according to a study of more than 14,000 people in the Netherlands. People who slept at least seven hours a night in addition to following the four traditional healthy habits were 65% less likely to develop CVD and 83% less likely to die from CVD.
