India's dairy industry needs systemic change, efficiency

India's 300 million dairy cows and buffalo produce 135 million tons of milk per year, but despite being a world leader in both categories, the industry is highly fragmented and significantly inefficient, according to Venture Dairy's Trevor Tomkins. India's dairy industry would be better served by a systemic change that adopts a local, decentralized approach to dairy farming and production, said Tomkins, who travels across the developing world seeking dairy investment opportunities.
