Fed report: 28% of bridges are deficient

An analysis of Federal Highway Administration data finds more than a quarter of all U.S. bridges need repairs, cannot handle traffic or are not safe. While still a large portion of bridges fall into this category, the number is markedly improved over data from 1992; increased federal spending in the last decade contributed greatly to the improvement in bridges.
