Map could help researchers understand common diseases

Researchers have mapped the overlap of 161 diseases using data from 1.5 million patients and say their results could shed light on the genetic bases of poorly understood conditions. The scientists found a strong overlap between schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and autism and also found that a gene can put a person at risk for one disease and protect against another.
