Chrome OS may shine for telecoms, vendors

Google's new Chrome operating system could give a major boost to wireless carriers and equipment makers by fueling consumer demand for mobile 3G and 4G connectivity on portable computers, according to an industry analyst. Google is targeting the software at "people who spend most of their time on the Web," notes ABI Research's Philip Solis, who says most laptop users now plug into less-expensive Wi-Fi connections. Vendors will benefit by selling more 3G and 4G wireless chips and minicards, he adds.
