Teaching a robot to smile

A robot resembling Albert Einstein figured out on its own how to smile and make other facial expressions using machine learning, according to this blog post. Scientists at the Machine Perception Laboratory at the University of California, San Diego, put the robot in front of a mirror, where it received feedback to random facial muscle movements until it was able to determine the configurations of realistic expressions.
