Mangoes evoke memories of India

Madhur Jaffrey, the famed India-born actress and food writer, says special occasions were always marked with gifts of mangoes, "a way of sweetening the mouth, like the honey with which our grandmothers anointed our tongues when we were born." She recalled eating the best ones fresh, and using lesser ones as ingredients in pickles and chutneys.
