Barriers to physician care send patients to ED, study shows

A Health Affairs study of 40 patients with low socioeconomic status showed they faced barriers to physician care that drove them to choose a hospital emergency department instead. Patient interviews found perceptions on their ability to pay for care, location of facilities and availability of treatment that fit their schedules were factors in deciding where to get care.
