The basics of systematic withdrawals

Retirees can use systematic withdrawals as one of three options for generating a paycheck from their retirement savings, writes Steve Vernon. If retirees' investments are actively managed and incur investment expenses of more than 50 basis points, or if a person is married, healthy and retires in their early to mid-60s, they may want to consider 3% or 3.5% withdrawal rates, rather than the traditional 4%, he writes.
