California Pizza Kitchen aims to shed chain look and feel

California Pizza Kitchen has debuted a new prototype in Canoga Park, Calif., that leaves behind the chain restaurant look the restaurant has had for more than 28 years in favor of a rustic, reclaimed wood look and an upscale, scaled-down menu that features hand-stretched pizza dough, flat breads and low-calorie dishes. "We're trying to get away from that very expected, shiny chain feel," said Clint Coleman, chief development officer. "We wanted to take some of that perfect off."
