Florida lawmakers recently voted to ban Internet cafes, but the legislation was so garbled that it effectively bans all Web-connected computers and smartphones in the Sunshine State, critics say. The ban was intended to shut down Internet cafes on the suspicion that they were being used as fronts for online gambling groups, but the legislation actually prohibits any device capable of accessing the Web, according to a lawsuit filed by the owner of a recently shuttered Internet cafe that catered to migrant workers.
