Government accepts change-fee hikes that airlines deem vital

The fees that airlines charge to change a flight recently went up from $150 to $200 for a domestic ticket, while international ticket changes now cost about $300, up from $250. American Airlines charges as much as $750 to change a discounted first-class ticket on an international flight. "Our customers agree to give us certainty that they will fly on a certain flight at a certain time," said Doug Parker, CEO of US Airways, who was questioned by lawmakers when all four major U.S. airlines upped their change fees in April.
