Government data sharing is good for the economy, Obama says

The Obama administration says its ongoing effort to encourage federal agencies to share more of their research with entrepreneurs and innovators through the government's Data.gov website has led to an increase in private-sector jobs by making it easier for companies to access critical data. "What's happening is entrepreneurs and business owners are now using that data -- the people's data -- to create jobs and solve problems that government can't solve by itself or can't do as efficiently," President Barack Obama said.
