Flat, commercial roofs with a low-slope design could easily collapse during heavy rains if one of its trusses fails to hold the weight of the water, says Dave Reigles, a firefighter and a public information officer for the fire department in Appleton, Wis. There can also be additional problems. "With your low-slope commercial roofs you have problems with a lot of windblown debris that will stay on the roofs. You can get clogged drains, clogged gutters, roof membranes that will crack or fracture," says Dan Miller from Security-Luebke Roofing.
