Texting retains major appeal for marketers

Despite advances in mobile marketing channels such as e-mail and social media, SMS text messages retain certain key advantages, according to Alastair Shortland, founder of SMS marketing service Text Local. "People are swamped with e-mails; instant messaging is only for person-to-person messaging and, although social media is fantastic, who is going to notice an offer from a local business perspective?" he said.
