Chick-fil-A appears to be reaping the benefits of its grass-roots marketing strategy, which eschews traditional ads and emphasizes word-of-mouth and community events such as today's "Cow Appreciation Day," in which customers get free meals by dressing up like a cow. Sales at its 1,450 locations through June rose 10% compared with last year, and same-store sales at malls and other sites increased 3%, according to this article.
