Small-scale protests stopped by Iranian forces

Demonstrators flooded the streets in Tehran, setting fire to trash bins to ward off the effects of tear gas fired by security forces -- who also fired shots into the air to disperse the crowds. The protests, organized to commemorate the 10-year anniversary of student uprisings, were small in comparison to the uprisings that followed the presidential election last month. Human-rights groups have condemned the Iranian regime's use of excessive force -- through the Revolutionary Guard and Basiji militia -- to quell protests.
