CDC: Up to 800 deaths are caused by norovirus infection every year

Norovirus infection is responsible for about 56,000 to 71,000 hospitalizations and approximately 570 to 800 deaths in the U.S. each year, CDC researchers found. While adults older than age 65 had the highest mortality risk due to norovirus, children younger than 5 years received the most medical care, according to the report, published in the agency's journal Emerging Infectious Diseases.
